It’s that time of the year again- Microsoft has come out with their Wave 1 2024 plan, giving us a list of features planned for release between April to September 2024. These are some of my highlights from the release plan across Power Platform.
- Power Apps: Visualize and work with complex data using copilot
- Dataverse: Associate activities with multiple related records
- AI Builder: GPT prompt builder
- Microsoft Copilot Studio: Deploy copilots to WhatsApp, Azure Communication Services and SMS Channels
- Microsoft Copilot Studio: Use generative actions
Power Apps: Visualize and work with complex data using copilot
You can currently use copilot in Power Apps to create a Dataverse table for you. However, a limitation is that it cannot create relationships between tables, thus it has only been ideal for simple apps. This upcoming feature will bring a new data modeling experience through a WYSIWYG editor, where makers can create multiple tables with relationships from scratch, external data sources, or conversation with the assistance of copilot. Tables and relationships will be visualized in an ERD (entity relationship diagram) view.

Dataverse: Associate activities with multiple related records
This will allows users to associate activity records like emails, appointments, tasks, and calls to additional activity participants (parties) such as accounts, contacts, cases, leads, and opportunities.

AI Builder: GPT prompt builder
With AI Builder’s GPT prompt builder, you can build, test, and deploy GPT prompts that can be used across platform components and copilots. There are a few GPT prompt-related features that have been announced, including:
- Access prebuilt GPT prompts from the AI Builder prompt library: Quickly leverage GPT across the Power Platform with prebuilt prompts, such as summarize, classify, extract, sentiment, and reply email.
- Author power cards with GPT prompts: Allows makers to save prompts as Power Cards (dynamic AI-powered visual components), enhancing user engagement and information delivery.
- Classify content with AI prompts grounded in Dataverse data: Reference Dataverse data records to GPT prompts, allowing users to classify content based on past data. This gives you the ability to get additional insights on data or automatically route content.
- Define specific output formats with prompt builder: Structure information in specific formats, such as Power Cards, Power Fx, and JSON.
- Prompt builder supports few-shot learning and validation: Few-shot learning enables models to learn and adapt quickly to new tasks based on a small number of examples.
- Build the perfect response with copilot in prompt builder: Makers can engage in natural, flowing dialogues to construct complex prompts.
Microsoft Copilot Studio: Deploy copilots to WhatsApp, Azure Communication Services and SMS Channels
Microsoft Copilot Studio will introduce support for new chat channels- WhatsApp, Azure Communication Services and SMS.

Microsoft Copilot Studio: Use generative actions
Generative actions introduce a new way of building copilots using AI. Rather than triggering topics using trigger phrases, copilot uses GPT to select one or more topics or plugin actions to respond to a user’s query.
Generative actions is currently already in preview. See here on how to get started: Use Generative Actions in Microsoft Copilot Studio (preview) – Microsoft Copilot Studio | Microsoft Learn
