Here’s some FAQ to help you get started with getting your first Microsoft certification.
What do I need to do to get certified?
To get certified, you need to pass an exam. This is a closed-book exam with a time limit. Microsoft Learn is where you can find information about the different certifications, book in your exam, and obtain exam outlines. The content on Microsoft Learn will also help you to prepare.
What can I get certified on?
You can browse Microsoft Learn to see all the available certifications. Use the links below to browse:
- See all certifications
- Fundamentals certifications: Generally, you would begin with a fundamentals certification if you’re at the start of your journey.
I want to get certified on Power Platform, which one should I start with?
- PL-900: Microsoft Power Platform Fundamentals
- The next-level up is PL-100 Microsoft Power Platform App Maker. You don’t need to do PL-900 before this exam.
How do I book an exam?
Browse for the certification you want on Microsoft Learn and select it. Then click on the certification exam.
This page includes the information you need, such as the exam outline, ability to book, and recommended learning path. Scroll down to the Schedule Exam section and select Schedule with Pearson VUE.
You can then proceed to enter in your information, make the payment for the exam, and schedule it in.
How can I see the exam outline?
Back on the exam page on Microsoft Learn, you should see the button to Download exam skills outline. These often get revised. You will see any planned changes to the exam on the outline.
Do I have to do the exam in person?
No, exams can be done online. This allows you to pick a time that works well for you.
When is a good time to schedule an exam?
Pick a time where you would expect minimal distractions, perhaps early in the morning or late at night when it is quiet. You can not have others in the room while you do your exam, and the exam facilitator shouldn’t be able to hear any noise. You will be on camera as you sit the exam to make sure all rules are being followed.
When will I know if I pass the exam?
Unless the exam you are sitting is in beta, you will know your result immediately after submitting your exam. Your score is calculated on the spot.
What happens if I fail?
You will have to book (and pay) to sit the exam again.
Can I reschedule my exam?
Yes. Once you book in your exam, you’ll receive an email with a link for rescheduling. You can cancel or reschedule your exam as long as you do so at least 24 hours prior to your exam start time.
